With the dilly-dallying tactics of state and concerned IPH department to probe the actual cause of recent jaundice outbreak in Simla region, NGOs and Civic society started exposing the former for its negligent ignorance on the issue blaming the outdated technologies being employed for Sewerage treatment plant.

State’s largest NGO the Himachal Gyan-Vigyan Samiti (HGVS) has decided to investigate the matter in an unbiased manner and decided to find an outlasting solution to the health hazards caused by human negligence.

Holding state and its agencies responsible for the outbreak of the epidemic, NGO revealed today that Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs) across the state use outdated 50 years old technology which is neither efficient nor sufficient for the present quantum of the sewerage discharged daily from the city.

“STPs were being used to treat sewer at 17 to 25 degree Celsius however units get failed to treat it during the extreme winter which could be the sole reason the outbreak occurs during this winter season. Gross irregularities too are prevailing in the execution of the STPs run by the private players.” Dr. Om Prakash Bhureta.

While jaundice is affecting people in thousands, the State, Departments and Opposition are indulged in the blame game.

The HGVS NGO also works to spread scientific temper in the society appealed to the people of Shimla to avoid visiting Shamanist, quacks and superstition-mongers as the disease takes its time and medical science has sufficient system developed to cure it.

The HGVS empowers people of the state through various programmes attempted to bridge the three divides namely Knowledge Divide, Economic Divide and Social Divide in the society through its programs.
