In landmark judgement, Himachal Pradesh High Court, yesterday dismissed all the petitions pending before it against raising the mobile communication towers in residential areas. These petitions were filed by different petitioners opposing the mobile towers in their neighborhood.
Division bench comprising Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan today dismissed all the petitions saying that none of the international organizations so far have observed that mobile towers emit harmful radiation.
Court observed that all beings have been living amidst several types of emission and ultra violet rays. X-rays are more harmful than that of emitted from mobile towers. Court passed these orders after observing several reports about mobile tower emissions.
This decision is seen as a relief for telecom operators who were looking for space to raise mobile towers to combat frequent call drops.
Couple of months ago, officials of Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRAI) held a workshop here, where people raised issues of call drops while telecom companies said that they were not finding the space for raising mobile tower mostly in urban areas. “People oppose raising a mobile tower or sometime move to court against us,” one of the telecom operators had said.
Petitioners had pleaded in the court that several mobile towers placed in their respective neighbourhood are not safe for human beings and could affect their health.
