With increasing ambit of public interest litigation about converting waiting rooms of old bus stand into a shopping complex; the state high court today issued order to file the latest reports on all bus stands.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan passed these orders on petition filed by Asha Chauhan during a hearing. It was observed by the court that public interest is involved in this matter and then decided to treat it as Public Interest Litigation.

“Keeping in view the statement made by learned Advocate General we hope and trust that officers would do their best as they are directed to file similar status report about all bus stands on or before 23rd November 2015, which is the next date of hearing” bench said in the order passed yesterday.

The petitioner has challenged the tender notice issued in the month of January, 2015 wherein the tenders were invited by H.P Bus Stand Management and Development Authority, Shimla for the repairing work of the Old Bus Stand, Shimla.

It was further alleged that under the garb of repairing work, the authority is converting the waiting room into a shopping complex at the same place. The petitioner further alleged in her petition that there are many instances where lady passengers are being harassed by the persons who are in the habit of eve teasing and harassing the ladies and these lady passengers used to feel secure in such waiting rooms. But the management is more concerned about their profits and not on the social issues.
