Life line of the hill state, the National Highway-05 connecting this capital town to Chandigarh blocked the suburbs of this town yesterday near Shoghi after massive  landslide triggered by the heavy overnight rains, left thousands of passengers stranded on the road.

Landslide disrupted the vehicular traffic completely hitting supply of daily needs including milk, bread partially. And at around three kilometer vehicles were stuck in traffic jam on both sides of the spot. Hundred of vehicles were stranded on the national highway in spite of administration routing the vehicles from Shoghi Mehli by pass road.

Locals said that the landslide blocked the road early in the morning when there was less traffic otherwise there could be loss of life also. Trucks carrying milk, and other necessary items remained stranded towards Solan side for hours and later reached the town via bypass.

Shimla Traffic Deputy-Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr. Amit Thakur said alternate routes were then made through for traffic. A public works department’s machinery was also deployed to open the road but it took more than four hours to open the road.

PWD sources said two unsuccessful attempts were made to blast the boulders but it is not easy to reach till huge boulders and without breaking them into pieces road cannot be cleared.

AICC president Sonia Gandhi who was on three day state visit to this capital town had to change her route to Shimla as she arrived here after taking convey from Dharmpur via Sabthu to Jubberhati airport from where she reached Chhrabara. District administration was plying vehicular traffic via Mahli bypass from Shogi to Shimla and via Taradevi ITBP Phayal road to Shogi from Shimla. Mr. Thakur said that more than 35 additional traffic jawans were deployed to facilitate the traffic.
