Himachal Pradesh Government conducted a successful CNG fuel based HRTC buses trail on Rohtang Pass on Tuesday.

Rakesh Kanwar, Deputy Commissioner Kullu who joined the trail told media that a 27 seater CNG bus scaled an elevation of 13050 feet on Rohtang Pass by covering a distance of 51 km in 3hrs this morning.

It is worth while to mention here that National Green Bench Tribunal had imposed a ban on movement of diesel based vehicles to ecologically fragile Rohtang Pass asking the state to opt for CNG transport to reduce the emission pollutants in the serene environment.

Mr. Kanwar said that with successful fleet of less polluted transport, the next target is to set up CNG based filling station at Manali as otherwise the state will have to depend upon Ambala based filling station to refuel the vehicles.

On 6th, July NGT asked the state government to ban all kind of tourism activity to Rohtang pass, meanwhile the transit bench held here yesterday asked the state government to comply with NGT directions failing to which officers have to face the court contempt.

HRTC would now increase fleet of CNG buses and also look into this aspect to set up CNG filling station at tourist resort Manali as per the green bench orders passed earlier. So far the state administration is allowing 1000 vehicles to Rohtang limiting the tourist flow and footfall on the snow pass. In the meanwhile NGT has already ordered the state to look into aspect of CNG transport before imposing blanket ban on free transport and tourism activities on Rohtang pass.
