Himachal Black & Red heart cherry hit markets

Himachal Black & Red heart cherry has hit recently the markets at Shimla, Chandigarh and National Capital Region .The seasonal fruit has started to pour from different places of state and are selling like hot cakes.

Mr. Daulat Ram, the fruit-marketing officer of horticulture department told Himvani that thousands of boxes of cherry are pouring here in the market everyday and five to seven tons of fruit is being sold daily. Farmers’ carry these perishable items in the one-kilogram attractive packets are being transported in the market by growers in shared utility here. He also said that it is fetching price of Rupees 110 to Rupees 200 per kilogram. State recorded 202 metric tons production last year in 453-hectare area compared to 1183 metric tons in the year 2013-14 and the production is likely to exceed this years as rain and chilling hours are normal.

This year most of the crop is coming from Matyana and Kumarsen. This seasonal fruit going popular among people especially the middle class for its high nutritional value. It is also an attraction for tourists as well as the locals and they can hardly stop themselves from purchasing a box of fresh and juicy cherry.
