HP orders audits of old buildings in Shimla, Mandi and Dharmshala after Nepal earthquake

    The state government seems to have woken up and has decided to conduct the audit of all old buildings at Shimla, Dhramshala and Mandi to test them for withstanding the possible earthquake.

    Urban Development Minister Mr. Sudhir Sharma said in press statement that it become very essential to test the old buildings of Shimla, Mandi and Dharmshala to audit them keeping in mind the possible threat of high magnitude earthquake as the region fall in the high seismic geological zone.

    “State government is under consultation with the NIT Hamirpur, IIT Rorkee and other private consultants to make a project to access the strength of old buildings in these towns” Mr. Sharma said.

    “Department would also recommend the improvement measures for all such old structures after finding their vulnerability to earthquake and landslides after completion of audit” he added.
