11 PSUs incurring loss of Rupees 302,104 lakh in Himachal Pradesh

“Eleven Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) in Himachal Pradesh are burdening public exchequer as they are incurring running loss of about Rupees 302,104.48 lakh till March 31, 2014” was confirmed by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today.

The Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board, the state’s largest undertaking with over 25,000 employees, tops the list of loss-making PSUs with a cumulative loss of Rupees 181,323.15 lakh. The Himachal Pradesh Road Transport Corporation, with a fleet over 2,000 buses, has recorded cumulative loss of Rupees 84,766.63 lakh.

Surprisingly, the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation which claimed that the annual tourist arrivals in the state was over 1.6 crore mark last year, has cumulative loss of Rupees 2,334.81 lakh.

The Himachal Pradesh Horticultural Produce Marketing and Processing Corporation (HPMC), which is mainly marketing apple juice concentrate, has incurred loss of Rs.7,042.86 lakh, while the State Forest Corporation and State Handloom and Handicraft Corporation suffered loss to the tune of Rupees 4,865.61 lakh and Rs.1,755.69 lakh respectively.

During his budget speech on March 18, the Chief Minister said out of every Rs.100 rupees spent, salaries will account for Rs.29.23, pensions for Rs.14.26, interest payments for Rs.10.41, loan repayments for Rs.5.30 and the remaining Rs.40.80 will be spent on developmental works.

The assembly on March 31 passed the general budget for 2015-16 and the related appropriation bill, authorizing the government to spend Rupees 30,185.77 crore from the consolidated fund.
