State unit of CPI (M) today cordoned the state assembly complex under the leadership of Mr. Rakesh Singha protesting against brutal lathi charge on SFI activists.

Vice president of CPI (M) Mr. Rakesh Singh said “Mr. Virbhadra Singh government was trying to bulldoze the working class in the state after enforcing neo-liberal policy on them. Under such regime any protest by working class is inevitable however repression and use of force on the peaceful agitators was not a part of democratic process. Thousands of cases have been registered against agitating people, which has further made the congress oblivious of the fact that it is a party of the people”.

The protest demonstrations was held to condemn the planned attack on Mr. Rakesh Singha, who is leading a people’s movement in Kinnaur and therefore the party has campaigned and exposed the despotic and authoritarian congress rule.

We are demanding a judicial probe to investigate the lathi charge on students and attack on party office followed by beating in the police station. It has been nearly two weeks since this incident happened but till date no FIR has been registered against the delinquent policemen who ransacked the party office and beat up students in police custody. The party workers have also handed a memorandum to the Chief Minister in the state assembly complex after the protest added CPM.
