Midday meal workers cordon Himachal Pradesh assembly complex

Falling to get any assurance of wage revision from the state general budget presented by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh here today hundreds of mid day meal workers and CITU workers lodged a protest outside state assembly complex here today.

Mid day meal workers especially women gathered here in large numbers carrying red flags in their hands on the pattern of Haryana and lauded slogan against Mr. Virbhadra Singh’s rule.

The protest led by CITU general secretary Mr Kashmir Singh Thakur alleged that midday meal workers were protesting from long time to hike their monthly honorarium from Rupees 1000 as they have to work more than eight hours.

He said that the state government was depriving number of midday workers from their rights and they would continue this protest unless the state government gives them a hike in their honorarium.

The protest ended peacefully despite heavy security forces had been deployed outside the assembly. CITU and mid day workers have also submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister in the assembly secretariat.
