Bus falls into Mandh Khud in Hamirpur district

At least eighteen persons were injured and five seriously injured when a private bus fell down from the Mandh Khud bridge near Lambagaon, 90 kilometers from here, this afternoon.

Reports reaching here say that over 35 persons were traveling in the ill-fated bus when the accident took place.

The private bus was on its way from Sujanpur in Hamirpur district to Jaisinghpur in Kangra district.

Lambagaon police told himvani that the bus was moving fast when driver failed to control and it went down from the bridge into the Mandh Khad from a height of at least 10 feet.

However, the bus driver told the police that inclement weather was responsible for the accident.

The injured persons were admitted in the civil hospitals at Sujanpur and Jaisinghpur. Condition of five passengers was reported to be serious who had suffered multiple injuries and fractures. Three of them have been shifted to Dr Rajendera Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, near here.

Jaisinghpur MLA Yadvinder Goma and Jaisinghpur SDM immediately reached the spot and supervised the relief and rescue operations and shifted the injured to hospitals.

BJP MP Shanta Kumar has expressed shock over the bus mishap and conveyed his sympathy to the families of injured.

Police registered a case against the bus driver under sections 279 and 337 IPC and investigation is in progress.
