The security has been beefed up for New Year celebrations on the historic Ridge and The Mall Road where the crowd has started to throng since today afternoon.
Superintendent of Police, Shimla D.W.Negi said that more than 2000 policemen would be deployed to maintain law and order in order to avert incidents of vandalism on New Year.
Public Relation Department and district administration has provided sound and music system near Statute of Mahatma Gandhi.
The New Year chevalier would remain here till mid nights and would be dispersed soon after midnight hours.
Minimum temperature is likely to remain near freezing point at the Ridge and Mall road however due to dry weather forecast tourists will have to celebrate new year without any snow this time.
“Most of the hotel units of Himachal Tourism which is a state unit having chain of about 48 hotels and restaurant and also other prominent hotels are already showing reserved status” quotes Arun Sharma Manager of Tourist Information Center.
District administration have made elaborated arrangements to park the vehicles on specially designated parking lots today however efforts have been made to not open the sealed and restricted roads.
Shimla Police has deployed a Police band near the Control Room to enthrall the audiences. Special decorations has been made for the parties organized at British resort, Shimla club, Ashiana and Hotel Holiday Home.
Owner of an online booking agency ‘Holiday mart’ Mr. Ashok Sharma said that 95 percent of the hotels units of this town are booked while five percent vacancies have been reserved for travel agents and tourist promoters.
Shimla is the top tourist spot where more then thirty five lakh tourists visit annually. The Christmas and New year are two occasion beside Winter and Summer festivals where hoteliers get enough business.
