Three more bodies fished out : Beas tragedy

After roaming in the dark, rescue agency on Thursday fished out three more bodies of VNR Jyoti Hyderabad engineering college students in the silted mighty Beas river, recovering total 12 deceased from the water.

It is still a tough task as number of deceased students and a tour operator are still missing in the river and Pandoh dam.

The latest victims have been identified as M. Shiva Prakash Varma, Ashish Mantha and Machrala Akhil, the police said. There swollen bodies surfaced from the river bed.

While Varma’s body was traced in the mid of Wednesday night, the two others were recovered on Thursday.

Mandi District Magistrate Mr. Devesh Kumar told that search operation to locate bodies of the remaining 12 of the 24 students and a tour operator, who were swept away on June 8 after water was released into the river without a warning from a nearby hydro-power project, continued for the 11th day.

The army and the navy withdrew their divers as their involvement in the search operation was no more required, he said.

The parents of the victims, who have gone back, were informed.
