Kullu Zila Parishad to confer Rajiv Gandhi Bharat Ratna Award for third time

Zila Parishad Kullu has been shortlisted for prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Bharat Ratna Award for the third time, press release issued by District Panchayat Officer Mr. Garish Sharma said on Monday.

Mr. Sharma said that district panchayat Kullu had received this award for Panchayat empowerment and Accountable governance two times earlier also.

District panchayat raj institution has remained on the top position in this hill state to implement Panchayat Empowerment and Accountable administration scheme of Panchayati Raj Department of Union government successfully.

Zila Parishad is to get an incentive amount of Rs. 50 lakh as special prize again for transparent and accountable local self government, implementing scheme in all gram panchayats in the district.

State level evolution committee after verifying the utilization of funds and its benefits render to people to shortlist one Zila Parishad for this award every year.

It has been placed for this award for third time since it played a leading role to promote programs like environment conservation, complete sanitation campaign, plantation, social justice etc. effectively.

As many as 15 Zila Parishads of each state have been shortlisted every year for this award.

District had got Rs. 25 lakh as first prize in year 2012-13, Rs. 40 lakh in year 2013-14 and Rs. 50 lakh for year 2014-15. Award would be conferred in Vigyan Bhavan, Delhi shortly.
