CPI(M) state unit hailed the decisions of Election Commission of India to impose ban on the Yoga camps of Baba Ramdev during the election campaigns on Monday, who was seeking votes in support of BJP candidate Shanta Kumar in Kangra district.

CPI(M) has welcomed a ban imposed by the Election Commission on the proposed Yoga camps of Ramdev in Himachal and condemned the despicable ‘honeymoon’ remarks made by him about Dalits while trying to attack Rahul Gandhi, party state unit member and Deputy Mayor Tekinder Singh Panwar said in a statement.

The CPI(M) has castigated the controversial self styled Yoga Guru and has stated that the activities and utterances of Ramdev has even brought shame to the saffron robes, so revered by the Hindus.

Masquerading as a Hindu religious leader, Baba Ramdev was pursuing a single point agenda to muster electoral support for BJP prime ministerial candidate Narinder Modi.

The CPI(M) always saw him as part of the “saffron brigade” networked by the Sangh Parivar and this had been proved by the manner in which he openly came out in support of the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls. In his anxiety to win votes for Modi he had not just been denigrating the leaders of other parties but also targeting communities.

It is in this light that the CPI(M) views the strong connection in between such spiritual leaders and the political parties. The platform is being used to garner support for a particular political outfit and in return there are ample benefits that are doled out in the form of free land and other logistics.

This needs to be thoroughly unearthed in the state and the nation. The party has appealed the people to be vigilant and ensure that such forces are defeated and as an alternate the CPI(M) nominees are elected.
