Center sanctions Rs. 300 crore to upgrade IGMC and Dr. R. P. G. medical college Tanda

Himachal Pradesh government stated in the house that center had sanctioned Rs. 300 crore to further upgrade Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital (IGMC) Shimla and Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College Tanda in Kangra district.

This was stated by the irrigation and public health minister Vidya Stokes, who was replying on the behalf of health minister Kaul Singh Thakur during his absence from the house on Tuesday.

Replying post lunch on discussion over budgetary estimates grants of health and family welfare department, Mrs. Stokes said that Rs. 150 crore each would be spent on both the primer health institutions to upgrade it upto AIIMS level.

She said that government would conduct the audit of those zonal hospitals where patients were being referred to other hospitals to know the reason for shifting of patients and laxity adopted in the treatment. Mrs. Stokes said that government is recruiting radiologist in Kamala Nehru hospital where patients are facing problem for treatment.

Mrs. Stokes said that government would conduct probe into sale of expiry and substandard medicine being supplied in the state hospital. She said that government was raising demand with MCI to increase strength of MBBS seats upto 150 in both medical colleges.

She said that in order to remove shortage of specialist doctor, government would restore intra-institutional transfers. Mrs. Stokes said that government would fill up vacant post of doctors in civil hospitals and regional hospitals on priority.

In order to de-congest crowded hospitals, efforts were being made to open new hospital at periphery of the town.

Maheshwar Singh of HLP, Sanjay Rattan, Bambar Thakur, Kuldeep Singh, Asha Kumari, Kishori Lal and Mohan Lal Bragta of Congress and Balbir Thakur of Independent were among those who participated in the discussion.

The house latter allowed the demand of department with voice vote as it was presented for approval by the chairperson Asha Kumari in the house.

No cut motion came for discussion in the house on the demand of health and consumer affairs, food and civil supply department as opposition continues its boycott even on Tuesday.
