Snowfall continues in Himachal Pradesh

Major tourist resorts in Shimla were experiencing snowfall since last night with most of the link roads including National Highway-22 being snowbound and communications also being affected in the areas.

Manali in Kullu district, Kalpa in Kinnaur district and Bharmaur in Chamba district recorded 18 cm snowfall till 0830 hours this morning.

Tourist resort Narkanda and Kufri received 30 cm and 20 cm snowfall respectively.

Met office recorded 100 cm snowfall at Moorang in Kinnaur district, Saluni in Chamba district 25 cm, Bijahi in Mandi district 15 mm, Keylong and Chatrarri in Chamba district 12 cm, Tissa 10 cm, Theog in Shimla district 9 cm, Bhuntar 21cm Kharapathar in Shimla district received 60 cm snowfall.

Vehicular traffic was disrupted on NH-22 between Kufri and Narkanda forcing the authority to divert it via Basantpur.

Most of the high areas of Shimla district including Rohru, Jubbal, Kotkhai and Chopal is receiving snowfall continuously.

Snowfall have been continuing in this capital town since last night as 4 to 6 cm snowfall was recorded.

Reports coming from higher altitudes said that power, water and communication have been disrupted in the snowbound areas.

Downstream areas were also experiencing rainfall as Jubbal recorded 80 mm, Dharamshala 31 mm, Gohar 27 mm, Kheri in Kullu district 25 mm, Nahan in Sirmaur district Dharampur in Mandi district 23 mm each, Baijnath in Kangra district 22 mm, Gaggal, Seobagh in Kullu district, Joginder Nagar and Bhuntar 22 mm each, Sundernagar 15 mm, Una 7 mm and Solan 5 mm.

Keylong was coldest in the state and recorded low at minus 11 degrees. Minimum temperature of Kalpa, Manali, Shimla were minus 2.8 degrees Celsius, minus 1 degrees and 1 degrees respectively.

Dalhousie was recorded minus 1 degrees Celsius. Chamba 3 degrees, Bhuntar in Kullu district and Nahan in Sirmaur 4 degrees, Palampur and Solan 5 degrees each, Dharamshala in Kangra district 6 degrees, Sundernagar in Mandi district, Una and Kangra 7 degrees each. Hamirpur 8 degrees and Bilaspur 9 degrees respectively.

The Met office warned of heavy to very heavy snowfall in parts of Kinnaur and Shimla district. The inclement weather conditions are likely to remain unchanged for next two days.
