Himachal tourist resorts experiencing snowfall; power and NH-22 disrupts

Major tourist resorts are experiencing snowfall since last night. Most of the link roads including National Highway 22 became snowbound disrupting power, water and communications in the affected areas.

Tourists resort Manali in Kullu district and Kalpa in Kinnaur district recorded 18 cm snowfall till 0830 hours this morning. Narkanda, Fagu and Kufri recorded 15 cm, 12 cm and 10 cm snowfall respectively. Kharapathar in Shimla district recorded 30 cm snowfall.

Vehicular traffic is disrupted on National Highway-22 between Kufri and Narkanda forcing the authority to divert it via Basantpur. Most of the areas in upper Shimla district including Rohru, Jubbal, Kotkhai and Chopal is snowbound as snowfall was continue in the region.

Snowfall was continue also in this capital town since overnight as 4 to 6 cm snowfall has been recorded. Report coming from higher altitude reported that power, water and communication have been disrupted in the snowbound areas.

Downstream areas were also experiencing rainfall as it was recorded 15 mm in Sundernagar, 11 mm in Solan and 4 mm in Una. Minimum temperature of Kalpa, Manali, Shimla were minus 2.8 degrees Celsius, minus 1 degrees and 1 degrees respectively.

The Met office warned of heavy to very heavy snowfall in some parts of Kinnaur and Shimla district. The inclement weather conditions are likely to be remained unchanged for next two days.
