Avalanche hit a house in Yulla village : Kinnaur

An avalanche damaged a house in Yulla village of Kinnaur district, while threat of triggering more avalanches is looming high as heavy to very heavy snowfall occurred in many parts of Kinnaur district in last two days, senior officer confirmed.

Talking to media, Deputy Commissioner Kinnaur J.M. Pathania told that under Nichar subdivision, a house of Ram Krishan of Yulla village was damaged as it was hit by avalanche last night. No loss of life is reported in the mishap. The rescue party is yet to departure for the affected place to assist the affected family.

National Highway 22 is disrupted at Karchham and Pangi Nalah upto district headquarters Reckong Peo while it was also snowbound in the high places. The road communications are also disrupted in more than 25 places after heavy snowfall in some region.

Mr. Pathania said that Snow Avalanche Study Establishment Manali had warned of triggering of more avalanches in many parts of Kinnaur district as people has been advised to stay at home and restrain to go out of their houses.

Heavy snowfall occurred on higher places, cold triggered avalanche as snowfall along with rain posing threat of avalanches in the entire district Mr. Pathania warned.

Deputy Commissioner said that power, water and ration supply was normal in the snowbound areas but after snapping road links entire district has fallen apart.

He said that snow cutters have been deployed to clear the snowy road in the district on war footing to restore the normal life in the district.

Reports arriving from district said that insistent snowfall and rain has affected normal life as entire district is under severe cold wave as the mercury is in minus at many places.

National highway link Rampur of Shimla district with district headquarters Reckong-Peo and regional headquarters Kalpa is snowbound at Pawari, and some other places.

HRTC have to suspend bus services on 26 routes yesterday, moreover, bus services to district also affected between state capital Shimla as it has been diverted via Basantpur after snowfall at Narkanda.

Power supply is affected in Sangal, Pooh, Chitkul and Rakesham, which is likely to resume today.

Fresh reports said that Chitkul situated on Indo-Tibet border is buried under 3 feet (90 cm) thick snowfall, Sangala 2 feet, Reckong Peo 20 cm, Pooh 45 cm.

Roads link Reckong Peo with Pooh and Sangala is completely snowbound.

District administration is keeping the police, home guards and armed forces jawans on high alert to provide immediate rescue and relief to expected avalanche and snow hit locality in the tribal district.

SDM Rampur in Shimla district Daleep Negi said that people in this district are also cautioned to not venture towards towns till stopping of snowfall in the high reaches as the condition is not normal in the adjoining area of Kinnaur district also.
