High reaches of HP snowing; rain lashed down-streams

High reaches of Himachal Pradesh were experiencing fresh snowfall whereas down-streams were lashed with rain while it was mainly cloudy in rest of the state.

Report arriving from Keylong said that Lahaul valley is snowing, as 8 to 9 cm snowfall is already recorded, Udiapur and Koksar had 15 and 20 cm snowfall respectively which partly affected local vehicular traffic. Rohtang Pass reported fresh snowfall of about 2-3 feet.

Manali recorded 8 mm rainfall, whereas high reaches were snowing. Similarly Dhauladhar ranges of Kangra district are also having snowfall and rainfall in the down streams. Dharamshala had 8 mm rainfall, report of rainfall was also coming from Baijnath and Palampur of Kangra district.

High reaches of Chamba also reported fresh spell of snowfall Saluni had highest 17 mm rainfall in the state during last 24 hours.

Shimla town was mainly dry in last 24 hours but thick clouds were shrouding the area since morning.

The Met. office warned that after heavy snowfall in high reaches it could trigger avalanches. It forecast heavy rain or snowfall in many parts of middle and high reaches and rain in foothills.

The rain or snowfall is considered good for the growing of rabi crop in the plains and for good apple crop in the high reaches.

Due to blanket of cloud, the minimum temperature inversely rose up as Keylong was coldest at minus 2 degrees Celsius followed by Kalpa in Kinnaur district minus 0.4 degrees, Dalhousie at 0.8 degrees, Manali 2 degrees, Hamirpur, Una and Shimla 5 degrees each,  Nahan and Dharamshala 7 degrees each, Chamba, Solan, Sundernagar in Mandi district and Palampur at 8 degrees each.

Maximum temperature of Kalpa was 3. 4 degrees, Manali 10 degrees, Dharamshala 13.8 degrees, Shimla and Bhuntar 14 degrees, Kangra 17 degrees, Sundernagar 18.4 degrees, Solan 19 degrees, Una 20 degrees and Nahan 22.3 degrees.
