Even the God is not safe from the antisocial element in Himachal Pradesh as Ancient Raghunath Temple (of Lord Rama) was this time the victim of major theft in the systematic sequence of such crime for past few months.

Report said that around 40.9 kg of crowns and ornaments of silver and around 165 grams of gold ornaments were stolen from Raghunath temple, chief deity of Kullu district, at Raghunathpur.

Market value of this theft was around Rs. 24 lakh but as the ornaments were antique, therefore, it could be estimated in crores.

Confirming the crime, Superintendent of Police, Kullu, Dr. Vinod K Dhawan said that search teams were deployed to nab the culprits.

The security and safety of a common man is surely in question as chief Kardar (caretaker) of the chief deity is also the local MLA here.

The thieves did not took away the precious idols of Rama, Sita and Hanuman, brought from Ayodhya, symbolic for the ‘Rath Yatra’, held to commence the world famous Kullu Dussehra each year.

As no CCTV cameras were installed in the shrine the police was clueless over this incident. Even the two priests, stationed at the temple during the night did not find anything suspicious during last night and came to know of the theft, only in the morning.

The police, who are yet to get any leads in the crime, have been keeping a vigil in the area and has set up a few check-posts along the porous road to nab the culprits.

In couple of similar thefts in the past security forces failed to sound alert in other shrines which is reported have ornaments and offerings of very significant amount as Gods and Goddess of state are considered very rich.

Some of the temples are under government trusts but most of such shrines are not safe from such theft incidents containing the massive treasure and highly venerable to such crime.
