The senior medical superintendent Dr. Ramesh Chand informed that four patients were registered at IGMC who got injuries due to road side accident in snowbound road and 14 others came with fall injures so far from different parts of the town.

It is worthwhile to mention here that despite snowfall is source of recreation to local and tourists but due to subsequent slippery conditions created by snowfall and frozen water in the cold, many suffer injuries and even death.

CPI(M) leader and Mayor of Municipal Corporation Shimla Sanjay Chauhan informed that municipality acted swiftly to clear off the snow from routes.

He said that two snow cutters (JCB), a small robot, multi-utility vehicles and about 150 manual laborers are deployed to quickly clear the snow laden roads.

A monitoring cell to manage and look after the snow clearing operation headed by subdivision officer of road and building of MC Shimla Rajesh Thakur and Assistant Commissioner Naresh Sharma has been setup which is being monitored by the mayor himself, he added.

Further, manual labor is being deployed to still clear those places from where complaints were pouring in the cell. In the more slippery prone shady areas soil and concrete chips are being spread over to reduce the danger.

C.M. Gupta, a local resident of Longwood appreciated the MC’s quick effort, though expressed inconvenience caused due to voltage fluctuations.

Resident of Bharari, outskirt of this town Susheel complained of water logging caused due to freezing of pipe lines owing to heavy snowfall and extreme cold weather.

The sporadic incidents of uprooting of trees and falling down of power span also disrupted the power supply. Moreover, it was highly erratic in several places.

In the shady places, the foot pressed snow hardened creating fatal slippery conditions for the commuters in the town as it was taking too much time to thaw.

More than half dozen vehicles were damaged, MC said as they either smashed the other passer by vehicles or hit the road side walls.

The vagaries of weather also increased in the town as the water supply was hindered due to erratic power supply, low voltage and freezing of water supply line in some parts.

The snow injuries are likely to mount further as the toll of fall victims are increasing day by day in the hospital. Most of the injured people were admitted with foot and head snow injuries. No loss of life is yet reported in the town.
