BCCI to open regional cricket academy at Dharamshala

By : Arvind Sharma

HPCA chief,  Anurag Thakur yesterday informed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has planned to open five regional cricket academies in India. He said that Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association has urged BCCI to set up academy for north zone in Dharamshala. He said that he is sure that it shall be granted to Dharamshala as they fulfill all requirements.

Talking to reporters at Dharamhsala on Sunday Thakur said, “Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh have already expressed to open their academies in Himachal and we have also requested the BCCI to set up one of the five proposed regional cricket academies at Dharamshala.” Thakur also informed that HPCA has proposed to hold training camps for Indian team in the international stadium in Dharamshala and hopes that such permission shall me granted soon.

Referring to the present tug of war between the state government and HPCA over the so called irregularities regarding the land and registration issue Anurag said,“I have done everything according to law and so I am not afraid of anything.”

When asked as if Indian Premium League (IPL) match will be allowed at Dharamshala cricket stadium in future, Thakur said political leaders (Congress leaders) can’t decide that whether there should be a match or not.

He also refuted the charges against HPCA of encroaching over 720 square meters government land and damaging and demolishing a building.

“During the congress government’s previous turn too we successfully hosted international matches in Dharamshala. We are not afraid of anyone and will host matches,as earlier we have done,” said Thakur.
