Pratibha Singh promises for all round development of Mandi

September 8, 2013

Pratibha Singh, MP and wife of chief minister, declared today that she would leave no stone unturned for the development of the state in general and Mandi Parliamentary constituency in particular.

Addressing a news conference today, she expressed gratitude to the people of Mandi for reposing confidence in her by electing her as their MP more than once and she would discharge the debt of the people by making vigorous efforts for the overall development of the constituency.

She said she had been meeting various central ministers during her stay at Delhi for expediting various ongoing development works pending in the state. Her thrust was to harness the vast potential of tourism, power generation and network of roads so that maximum number of tourists from home and abroad can visit Himachal Pradesh.

When a correspondent pointed out to the deplorable conditions of the roads in the state particularly between Kiratpur and Bilaspur which irked the tourists so badly that they vow not come to HP again, she said that the chief minister was aware of the vulnerable condition of the national highways and effective steps are being taken to improve the condition of the roads in the state. At present government is concentrating on the roads connected with the apple belts. The matter had also been taken up with the National Highway Authority of India, she added.

Another correspondent asked if she was aware of the big and deep potholes on the Kiratpur – Bilaspur national highway damaging the costly vehicles of the tourists and many foreigners who were going to Manali and Leh via Shimla. She assured that the condition of the roads would be improved on a war-footing within the next one month or so after the onslaught of the monsoon was receded.

She was also apprised that the condition of the Rohtang road is so bad that foreign tourists are now opting to go to Leh via Srinagar causing huge loss to the travel agents and hoteliers of Himachal Pradesh.

She said Mandi is the gateway to the panoramic valleys of Kullu, Manali, Lahaul and Spiti and Leh-Ladakh and efforts would be made to make this town attractive to the tourists.

She directed the PWD officials to clear the roads linking the apple belts of Mandi and Kullu to avoid the glut of apples and salvage the fruit growers.
