The health services were paralyzed yesterday in the Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla, as resident doctors went on indefinite strike seeking arrest of a person who had recently allegedly thrashed a doctor during the duty.

All doctors belonging to RDA and number of other medical students joined the protest after bringing out a protest rally from IGMC to Deputy Commissioner office seeking immediate action against the alleged accused.

President of RDA Rajeev Chauhan said that doctors would not join their duty until the accused would not be arrested. Senior superintendent of IGMC Ramesh Chand said that consultant doctors were giving their services in the hospital meanwhile all emergency services were kept out of strike by the doctors.

He hoped that hospital management would soon sort out the matter as they were talking with the agitating doctors. He said that patients who could not avail the facility of MRI and ultra sound yesterday due to strike would be given dates on the priority.

S.P. Shimla Abhishek Dullar has said that police have yet to identify the accused, however, it could be in position to arrest him there after. Number of patients had to face the hardship due to lack of doctors in the hospital as they were seen moving from pillar to post for getting medical assistance. Meanwhile, MRI, ultrasound, OPD and indoor services were affected by the strike.
