Heavy snowfall on high reaches of HP, thundershowers lashed the down streams

With overnight inclement weather, life is again disrupted in Himachal Pradesh. Heavy snowfall was experienced on the high reaches, whereas storm and thundershowers occured in down streams which also pushed down the mercury in the state.

Keylong, headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti, experienced 25 cm snowfall till 0830 hours today, followed by Kalpa in Kinnaur 10 cm. Heavy spell of snowfall was also reported on the gateway of Lahaul and Spiti district, Rohtang Pass, Goshal hills, Lady of Keylong, Baralacha in Chamba, Kunjum Pass in Spiti, Kinner, Shrikhand and Kailash ranges in Kinnaur and Dhauladhar ranges in Kangra.

Down streams were lashed with light to moderate downpour along with thunderstorm since overnight. The intermittent rain and light velocity winds were blowing in the middle and plain areas of this hill state which disrupted power supply in many areas. Manali got 43 mm rainfall, Saluni in Chamba 40 mm, Dharamshala 33 mm, Bhuntar 30 mm, Gagal airport 32 mm, Jubberhati airport 17 mm, Sundernagar 26 mm, Una 23 mm, Mandi, Shimla and Solan 11 mm each.

Many link roads were also partly disrupted, following rolling of boulders on the road and mounting of snow on the high reaches. However, this untimely rain is reported harmful for the flowering fruit crops in the state but good for the wheat crops.

The Met office said that rain or snow likely to occur at isolated parts of Himachal Pradesh in next 24 hours.
