Vice Chancellor steps forward for research on disaster management

Himachal Pradesh University Vice Chancellor A.D.N. Bajpai stressed the need of serious research in the field of disaster management which would bring long term impact.

Inaugurating three days short duration workshop on disaster management being organized under the aegis of state government and UGC academic staff of HPU at university campus in Shimla today.

He said that the subject of disaster management is of extreme importance as early deliberations on this topic would not only help to reduce the impact of calamity but also a precautionary step may be taken in advance so that relief measures could be provided in effect on time. The spree of cloudburst today emerged as major exigency in the world required consolidated and broad vision, he said adding that disaster management is not as much challengeable as disaster control. Stressing the need to strike balance between nature, culture and environment, he said that man-made disaster could be averted after linking natural conservation measures with human activities.

State Coordinator D.C. Rana delivered keynote, urging the university faculty members to give their contribution in the disaster management. Former Director of academic college staff Prof. Kulwant Pathania, and about 40 delegates took part in the workshop.
