Former Deputy Prime Minister and senior BJP leader L.K. Advani said that the people of the country would not forgive UPA government for massive corruption and will defeat it in the next elections. Addressing election rally at Amb in Una district of Himachal, Mr. Advani said that the Congress government headed by Rajiv Gandhi, having support of more than 400 MPs was ousted by the people on the issue of Bofors pay-offs and would never forgive the present government which was involved in scams involving crore of rupees. “The people are eager for a change and it will start from Himachal and Gujrat where the BJP government would return to power and UPA government would be defeated in the Lok Sabha polls which might be held ahead of schedule in 2013”, Advani added.

Advani said that the BJP chief ministers Shanta Kumar and P.K. Dhumal are known as “paniwala” and “sadakwala” chief ministers because they focussed on water supply schemes and road construction but the HPCC president Virbhadra Singh who remained chief minister for many years has nothing to his credit as such and had tarnished the image of Dev Bhumi due to alleged involvement in corruption cases. Challenging Virbhadra Singh for public debate with Chief Minister Dhumal on key issues, Advani said that the issues must be debated in public like in USA and in case Singh would not be available, the leader of the opposition Vidya Stokes can join the debate.

Making a strong plea for simultaneous polls to Lok Sabha and state assembly after five years and compulsory voting, Advani said these steps were necessary for strengthening democracy. He said elections are being held in Himachal and Gujrat, whereas several other states are slated for assembly polls in 2013 and Lok Sabha elections slated for 2014 could also be held earlier, he said adding that the issue of simultaneous polls should be discussed by government and political parties.
