Himachal Pradesh Congress chief Virbhadra Singh who is also star campaigner of Congress party in the state for assembly election expressed regret over discomposure with the media persons taking u-turn over this incident stating that “he always maintain cordial relation with the media”.

Less than 24 hours after his purported threat to the media, Mr. Singh told reporters that he respect the media and had no intention to hurt anybody and said that he regret the incident happened before, saying it was single incident but he is generous with the media in general. On his act against the media persons, Singh said “sometimes the reporters do not await and start asking the questions suddenly. This happened here also.” Reacting over AICC apologizes, Mr.Singh said that he thanks the AICC, and immediate reaction over the discomposure shows that party stands with him.

Irked over allegations of income tax evasion and money laundering, Singh threatened the media on tuesday evening. Later the Congress apologized for his behavior. “I will break the cameras,” was the reaction of the five-time chief minister when journalists asked him about the allegations leveled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Dismissing the charges as “baseless”, he told TV news channels during campaigning in Kullu district: “I will deal with all these issues after the elections are over on Nov 4.” Defending himself, Singh said the entire income (reflected in the income tax returns) was from orchards. “I have no other income. The income is maximum from the orchards and almost negligible from other sources,” he said.

He also slammed BJP leader Arun Jaitley for questioning his income. “He has no right to access my accounts,” Singh added. Mr. Singh said that Arun Jaitley charged him as he was accusing, investigating, prosecuting and judging the allegations leveled on him (Mr. Singh).

Earlier in the day, calling it “unfortunate”, Congress spokesperson Sandeep Dikshit said in New Delhi: “If anyone is hurt, we apologize. He should not have spoken like this.” “But sometimes in the midst of election campaign such things happen under mental pressure.” The BJP said that Singh must answer all questions related to money laundering against him.
