Shimla (Jan 2): Himachal Seb Utpadak Sangh has condemned the state government for steep hike in prices and not making timely arrangement of fertilisers to the farmers and fruit growers of the state.

“Farmers, particularly apple growers, had applied for Super Phosphate and Potash in the month of December, but both the fertilisers are still not available, which has put the apple growers, already in distress due to low crop last year and even this year, in trouble,” said Sanjay Chauhan, finance secretary, Himachal Seb Utpadak Sangh.
He added that governments at Centre as well as at the state are not concerned about farmers and policies being implemented by both are anti-farmers. “There is steep hike in the prices of fertilisers even this year. The prices of Super Phosphate, Potash and Calcium Ammonium Nitrate(CAN) have been raised from Rs 200 to Rs 300 per bag of 50 kg. Now a bag of Potash is priced Rs 575 which was earler available for Rs 265 last year, a bag of CAN is priced at Rs 925 which was available for Rs 725 last year and Super Phosphate priced Rs 425, which was available for Rs 165 last year. This hefty hike in the prices and non-availability of fertilisers shall affect the utilisation and result in low productivity in the coming year,” He claimed.  Himachal Seb Utpadak Sangh demanded that the government should make fertilisers available immediately.
