New year begins with rainshowers in Himachal

Shimla (Jan 1): The new year began with rainshowers in Himachal Pradesh as people woke up to a wet morning today in Shimla and other parts of the state.

Juberrhati recorded 2 mm rain, Shimla city 0.6 mm and
Sundernagar in Mandi 0.5 mm respectively, while rain showers also lashed Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Solan and Sirmaur district.

Tourist resorts Shimla, Kufri, Narkanda, Manali, Dalhousie and Chail remained jampacked with touirists and new year revelers but absence of snowfall dismayed them.

The mercury show slight upward trend as minmum of Keylong in Lahaul Spiti was minus five degree Celsius, Kalpa in Kinnuar minus 1.7 degrees and Bhuntar in Kullu minus one degrees.

The mercury in Manali was two degrees (up by four degrees), Solan 2.8 degrees, Shimla and Sundernagar three degrees each, Una, Mandi and Dharmsala 4.5 degrees each and Nahan in Sirmour 10.8 degrees respectively.

The Met department forecast rain or snow in the high reaches and mainly dry weather in the plains and middle hills in next 24 hrs in the state.
