Shimla (Dec 24): Sixty-five houses were gutted in Himachal Pradesh’s Chichwardi village near Chirgaon in Rohru tehsil of Shimla district early Saturday, an official has confirmed. However, no loss of human life has been reported. However, more than 450 people have been rendered homeless and over 250 cattle died.

Shimla deputy commissioner Onkar Sharma said the entire village, some 150 km from here, was damaged as most of the structures in the village were wooden. “We have provided blankets, tents and woollens to the locals and shifted them to temporary shelters in nearby areas,” Sharma said.

Eyewitnesses said the rescue workers had tough time to reach the village as it was not connected by road and located in interior areas.
