Newly built Bridge collapses in Sirmaur district

Nahan:  A newly built bridge over Alyav river about 106 km from here on Haripurdhar-Bhadol Korag road collapsed today as it could not withstand the load after removing its supports. Concerned officer told HimVani that no one was hurt in the mishap which occurred due to the use of sub-standard material and improper use of iron bars in the construction. Local people alleged that contractor after wining the bid sub-contracted the work to a local contractor who did sub-standard construction.

Department had  reportedly awarded the work of 11 km long Haripurdhar Karog road for Rs. 72 lakh in year 2007 which was still to be completed. After the construction of road and bridge the residents of 64 Panchayats were to be benefited.  The Panchayat Pradhans of Bayog Rikhi Ram, Tikri Panchayat Tota Ram and Badol, Panchayat Jagat Klaayan said that the department authorities were informed in advance of use of sub-standard material but no action was taken against any person.
