Nadaun (Sept 28): Himachal Pradesh is surpassing other states in the country in the field of higher education as the state has registered 22 to 25 percent higher education enrolment.

This was stated by chief parliamentary secretary Verinder Kanwar while addressing the second day function of Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign conducted by Press Information Bureau, Shimla, at Kharidi ground in Naduan on Wednesday.

He said that with the implementation of a number of central and state government schemes, the state has taken a long leap in every sector and has been appreciated on the national level as the model state in the country. Kanwar said that a number of schemes were being implemented in the remotest parts of state, creating better infrastructure for better living.

He said that Himachal Pradesh has emerged as a model state but it is still lagging behind in expansion of rail network as no new rail line has been taken up in the state since independence. He demanded that the state should be given railway package on the lines of  West Bengal as the state was not in a position to afford 50 percent cost of rail projects as being asked by the Centre.
