Manali (Sept 18): Himachal Pradesh High Court judge Justice V K Ahuja on Sunday said that corruption is the symptom of a disease which has over-centralization of power, non-transparency in government functioning and lack of accountability as its progenitors.

Addressing a two-day workshop on cyber laws and Prevention of Corruption Act organized by Himachal Pradesh Judicial Academy, Justice Ahuja said here that corruption lowers investment and hinders economic growth and human resource development by limiting access to basic social services as well as increasing the cost of their delivery.

Justice Deepak Gupta of the high court, who is the president of the judicial academy, asked people to eradicate corruption from its very root. Delay in investigation of cases and long trials in court without justification also falls under the definition of corruption,” he remarked.

Other judges from HP high court and resource persons from judiciary, prosecution and police departments will also address the participants during the course of the workshop, sources said. The academy plans to organize two more such workshops during the year, they added.

The workshop was attended by over 70 officers from judiciary, police, prosecution, Central Bureau of Investigation and forensic science departments.
