Cloudburst hits traffic on Chandigarh-Manali highway

Shimla (Aug 6): Hundreds of vehicles were stranding on the Chandigarh-Manali national highway due to massive landslides triggered by a cloudburst early morning at Manjhinalah between Mandi and Manali town. However, the cloudburst did not caused any loss of life, a senior district police officer said.

Mandi Superintendent of police PD Prasad told HimVani said, “The highway has been blocked at a Manjhinalah near Aathamile, 10 km from Mandi towards Manali. Work has been on to reopen it.” He said efforts are on to divert the traffic through alternate routes.This was the second cloudburst in the state in less than a fortnight.  Eight people were killed and 22 were injured in a cloudburst in upper Manali on July 22, 2010.
