Growers to protest for insufficient arrangements for ensuing apple season

Shimla: Himachal Seb Utpadak Sangh will organise a state wide protest at all the sub divisions, block and tehsil headquarters in apple producing areas on 30th June, 2011.

Convener, Himachal Seb Utpadak Sangh Rakesh Singha said in a press statement issued here today that protest would be held to press the demands by submitting memorandums addressed to Chief Minister, seeking to maintain main and link roads for ensuing apple season, which were in state of shamble and release pending payments of Apple growers due under Market Intervention Scheme(MIS).

Seeking compensation for the growers whose crop has been damaged due to hailstorm throughout the state and natural calamities, farmers also demanded anti-hail nets at 90 percent subsidy. Apple growers also sought to bring protection of crop from monkeys, parrots and other wild animals under MNREGA. Raising the issue of illegal commission being charged from growers in Delhi, they demanded that government should again take up this matter with centre to end the dead lock with government of NCR. Farmer association also demanded enhancement of subsidies on horticulture inputs, freight regulation and proper transportation arrangement for the season and building sufficient cold storage facility to protect farmer’s interest in wake of apple glut in market.
