Shimla: Himachal Pradesh unit of Congress today sought to revoke the lease deed for a large land piece allotted to Baba Ramdev in Solan district to set up a medicinal herb garden.

Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee President Kaul Singh Thakur said here today that land had been leased out in contravention of the agreement to construct a children’s park. Himachal Pradesh government had entered into the contract when it got the land as a gift from the erstwhile Maharaja of Patiala. “If the present government does not cancel the lease deed, should our party come into power in 2012, we will do it,” he said.

Defending the UPA government for not acting against corruption, he retorted that BJP was least qualified to speak on the subject, as it had failed to take any action against those tainted with corruption in Karnataka, Uttrakhand, Gujarat and Himachal. “The government has placed a list of tainted officers before the Himachal High Court, but some of those very officers were handed sensitive postings. It only shows the government’s resolve to fight graft,” he said. Distancing the party from BJP rebel MP Rajhan Sushant’s agitation against corruption, he said, “It is an internal issue of BJP even though congress has firmly acted against ministers and other party functionaries who are accused of corruption, something which BJP high command has failed to do so. About congress activists, particularly NSUI president Yedupatti Thakur, turning up at Rajan Sushant’s function on Wednesday, Kaul Singh said that the party had taken cognizance of the matter and a report would be sent to the party high command for necessary action.

He said the party would be launching its own drive against corruption and a rally at Baddi had been planned for 29 June. Defending UPA government over its tardiness to grant persecution to number of official being caught in graft case, Kaul Singh Thakur said that if state BJP government was so keen to root out corruption form state why it had not taken up the matter with centre.
