Dharamsala (June 4): National Consumer Awareness Group today demanded a CBI or vigilance inquiry into the purchases of medical equipments at Dr R.P. Government  Medical College at Tanda and sought resignation of health minister Dr Rajeev Bindal for his failure to run the college in right perspective.

The demand was raised by Col Shakti Chand (Retd), state president of National Consumer Awareness Group at a press conference here. He alleged that the functioning of DRPGMC had deteriorated so much that half of the posts of the doctors in emergency were lying vacant. He alleged that medical equipment purchased at exorbitantly higher rates had either developed snags or were rusting without getting used for want of specialized doctors. He alleged that monitors were not functioning in different wards, ICU and even in emergency thus playing with the lives of the patients.

He said that MRI, which was reported purchased for crores of rupees, was not functioning for the last more than a month now as the cooling equipment of the MRI room was not functioning. He said the doctors were forcing patients to get MRI done at private places.

Col. Shakti alleged that doctors were imparted training in Dialysis from PGI but due to the alleged government apathy the purchases of the dialysis machines remained piled up in the files only and under such circumstances the private hospitals were thriving.

  1. That is one thing a hospital cannot afford to do and that is for their medical equipment to not work. I can’t understand how they can do such a thing, it is ridiculous.
