Shimla (May 29): Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee today refused to accept the resignation of Shimla mayor Madhu Sood in the larger interest of the party.

Sood had submitted her resignation on Friday evening to HPPCC president Kaul Singh Thakur after a recent spat with the Municipal Commissioner who had allegedly given an out-of-the-way permission to an influential builder in just one day.

The routine formalities and getting the map approved by the Municipal Corporation for any type of construction in the capital town takes
years otherwise. The controversial firm, Bemloe Development and Infrastructure Company Private limited (BDIC), is constructing a housing project in Kanlog ward of Shimla Municipal Corporation.

The Mayor later had to change her stand against the commissioner, AN
Sharma, an IPS officer, and had signed a statement that all the approvals to the construction company were legal and nothing was done in haste. She had disclosed some kind of a pressure on her by the government in her resignation to the PCC president.

Meanwhile, the Himachal Pradesh State Secretariat of the Communist Party of India Marxist has demanded a high level enquiry led by a sitting or retired judge of the high court tp probe the “misdoings” of this construction company.

Shimla mayor Madhu Sood, who had questioned the rapid approvals by
the commissioner to a private company, reportedly softened her stand after
government raids on her husband’s office, who is also a prominent
builder.
