10 killed as tourist vehicle falls down

Chamba: Including two women and four children, ten tourists were killed and two others were injured seriously when a tourist mini bus fell down at Baner nallah on Khajiyar-Chamba National Highway this afternoon.

Superintendent of Police Madhu Sudan told Himvani over phone that an ill-fated bus, carrying tourists from Delhi to Dalhousie fell down into a deep gorge at Baner nallah on the way to Chamba from Khajiar this afternoon. Nine people were killed on the spot and one died on the way to the hospital. Two others were also injured seriously. They have been rushed to zonal hospital Chamba. The deceased were identified as Sunil Sharma, Deepak Sharma, Yatvinder Yadav, Shivam and Deen Dayal, Khushi Sharma, Aditi Sharma, Rozy, Seema and Kaniya.

The accident occurred at 2:30 pm. Tourist vehicle was on its way to Chamba when it met with accident and fell into about 250 metre deep gorge. Receiving the information officials of local administration and police along with medical team rushed to the spot retrieved the bodies. Injured were admitted to zonal hospital Chamba. The local people and some NGOs assisted the administration to evacuate the dead and the injured. Himachal Pradesh Governor Urmila Singh and Chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal have expressed grief over the accident and have conveyed condolences to the bereaved families.  Chief Minister has directed the authorities to extend all possible help to the kin of deceased and disburse immediate relief.
