Cong warns to cordon Vidhan Sabha on farmers’ land-grabbing issue

Shimla (May 15): In a warm-up exercise for coming Assembly polls in Himachal Pradesh to be held next year, Opposition Congress today made a move to counter the ruling BJP government after identifying key issues to press them in public for popular support.

A general body meeting was called here today at Rajeev Bhavan, which was attended by top party guns like Union minister
Virbhadra Singh and Anand Sharma, opposition leader in Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Vidya Stokes and HPCC leader Kaul Singh Thakur. It was chaired by AICC general secretary and state party in charge Vrinder Singh Chaudhary and also monitored by AICC generally secretaries Anish Ahamed (from Maharashtra) and Bhagat Charan Dass (from Orissa).

Talking to media , Chaudhary disclosed that the party has decided to organize a protest outside the Vidhan Sabha during the next monsoon session to highlight the plight of people who lost land to “state government promoted land mafia.” He said that the incumbent regime in the state had violated Section 118 of Land Tenancy Act, besides allowing big projects in the hill state which has damaged fragile environment of the region.

The AICC general secretary said that issues, including major corruptions cases, will be compiled in the form of a chargesheet and submitted to the President of India to seek a CBI enquiry against the state government. A convention of district,, block and other frontal office bearers of the party has been convened in the 2nd or 3rd week next month.

Condemning the charge of factionism inside state Congress leadership, he informed that in order to dispel this myth being spread by the ruling government, a show of strength will be held in the state in which all state top leaders will join a road show.
He said that state executive of the party is likely to be announce soon, which would have not more than 31 members compared to existing 36 members.

AICC general secretary Bhagat Charan Dass noted that the state government was making false propaganda against the UPA government by accusing it of discrimination against the state. He said that after coming to power, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has provided Rs 25,000 crore central assistance to Himachal Pradesh and Rs 1,000 crore was being provided to Rohtang Tunnel project alone.
