Shimla (May 14): In a big move to bringing apple growers under one banner in Himachal Pradesh, a ‘Himachal Apple Growers Association’ has been constituted as growers from Rohru, Jubbal, Kotkhai, Matiana, Theog, Fagu, Narkanda, Kotgarh, Nankhari, Koti Mashobra and Rampur in Shimla; Nirmand, Arsoo, Khanag, Chowai, Dalash, Banjar, Sainj,
Manali of Kullut, Jhanjheli, Churag, Balichowki, Karsog in Mandi and Nichar & Bhawanagar in Kinnaur gathered here to take part in a convention in Kali Bari Hall here today.
The convention unanimously elected Rakesh Singha as the state convener and Dr Onkar Shad as the co-convener of the organization.It also elected a 35 members committee. The convention further gave a call of massive protests on June 6, 2011, at the tehsil or block level followed by submission of memoranda to the chief minister.
The association would aim to unite apple growers of the state so that they could fight for pro-farmer policies at state and central governments level. The growers attending the convention accused the government of being anti-farmer.
