Mandi (Apr 24): Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Virbhadra Singh today claimed that his ministry had to play a pioneering role in the development of the country, being a nursery of entrepreneurship by harnessing individual creativity and innovation.

Addressing a news conference at the local Circuit House, he said MSME constituted over 60 per cent of industries in the country at the grassroots level for the economic uplift of the common man. He said this industrial sector contributes over 8 per cent of GDP, 45 per cent of manufactured output and 40 per cent of its exports. Besides this, MSME generated employment for over 60 million persons through its network of 26 million enterprises. The labour capital ratio and the overall growth in the MSME is much higher compared to those of large industries, he added. It also promoted small scale and cottage industries including Khadi and villages industries like coir and carpeting.

Replying to questions by newsmen, he said Congress party was united and would defeat the ruling BJP with which people of the state had been completely disillusioned. He said wrong policies of the BJP had landed Himachal Pradesh on the brink of bankruptcy. “For two successive years deficit budget had been presented and the huge money given by the Centre was not being properly used,” he claimed.

He said it was a big mockery that a Central university was being established at two places in Kangra district to give undue political mileage to the son of the Chief Minister who was MP from Hamirpur Parliamentary constituency.
