Shimla (April 16): A Himachal Day chopper flight conducted yesterday and arranged by State General Administration Department, landed in controversy following an allegation leveled by opposition Congress leaders on a minister for using it for personal purpose.

Himachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Minister Jai Ram Thakur, who had yesterday attended a district-level Himachal Pradesh Day function at Keylong along with his two daughters, has been dragged into controversy following scarcity of chopper flights to snowbound tribal Lahaul-Spiti district after protest lodged by a local Congress leader over use of government chopper for the minister’s kin while people in the mountain-locked tribal were in trouble due to lack of air connectivity.

Talking to HimVani, state GAD secretary Ajai Bhandari said that a complaint has come to his notice on the basis of media reports that the minister allegedly used the government chopper for personal purpose while it was meant for VIP visit to Keylong on Himachal Pradesh Day. He said that department would look into the matter whether chopper fare could be charged from the minister.

Talking to media persons over this controversy, Jai Ram Thakur expressed his willingness to bear the chopper fare as it was also used by his two teenage daughters besides him to attend the Himachal Pradesh Day function in which he was invited as chief guest on behalf of the district administration.

District spokesperson of the state government Sher Singh said that no one from the Congress lodged protest during the function but some activists did raise the issue later on.
