Shimla again under white cover

Shimla (Feb 26): Higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh, besides popular tourist towns, experienced a fresh spell of snowfall today.

In Shimla, when people turned out of their houses this morning, they were astonished to find two to three cms of snow lapping the entire surroundings. Jakhu got highest snow in the capital, which was about 6 cm. Traffic was plying on local routes without to much hassle. Reports of snowfall have also been arriving from Kangra and Mandi district where mighty Dhauladhar ranges and Shikari Devi along with high reaches of Karsog, had snowfall.

There are reports of snowfall from Manali as well where about 14 cm of snow has been recorded, official of Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) told HimVani. Tourist destinations like Narkanda and Kufri reported 10 to 15 cms snowfall. Report arriving from Kinnaur, Lahaul Spiti and Chamba said that Snowfall also occurred at Kalpa, Keylong and Dalhousie, respectively.

Kragnano, Charbra, Fagu, Theog and cold sport centre Matiyana are also draped under thick snow. Rohtang Pass, Koksar and Jalri Jot are reported to have experienced one to two feet fresh snowfall whereas Tissa in Chamba had 20 cm, Kalpa of Kinnuar 11 cm, Saloni of Chamba 5, Shimla (Bemloe) and Theog 1 cm each.

Kumarsain of recorded highest 40 mm rain in Shimla, Bhoranj in Hamirpur 19 mm, Dharmpur of Mandi & Kasauli of Solan 15 mm each. In Mandi district Kasol 14 mm, Gohar and Pachhad 13 each, Sundernagar 10 mm, Mandi town 1.5 mm, and Nurpur of Kangra 9 mm.

Rainfall also occurred in Solan, Kahu, Jogindernagar, Rajgarh Nahan, Bhuntar, Jhungi, Rampur, Sangrah, Karsog, Pandoh, Guler, Hamirpur, Baijnath, Udaipur Ponta sahib & Seobagh, Ghumarwin, Banjar, Rohru, Nadaun, Sujanpurtira, Ghamroor, Jubbarhatti and Berthin.

However, snowfall partly effected movement of traffic on the Hindustan-Tibet National Highway at Narkanda and Kufri. Number of local buses about to arrive at Shimla remained snowbound in rural areas like Theog and Narkanda.

The minimum of temperature of Shimla was zero degrees, Sundernagar 6.5 degrees, Bhuntar 5.6 degrees, Kalpa minus 3.6 degrees, Dharamshala 3.3 degrees, Una 9.8 degrees, Mandi 6.2 degrees, Nahan 3.5 degrees, Keylong minus 6.3 degrees, Palampur 4.5 degrees and Solan 3.5 degrees respectively.
