Sun finally smiles over Himachal

Shimla (Feb 18): After a week of inclement weather, people in Himachal Pradesh finally got respite from cold as the sun brought some warmth today. However, there are also reports and forecast of mild rain or snow in some parts of the state.

Mercury has been keeping three to four degree below normal as high peaks are laden with thick blanket of snowfall. Keylong, headquarters of Lahalu-Spiti district, recorded lowest in the state at minus 13.1 degree Celsius (three degree below normal). Kalpa in Kinnaur had fresh spell of snow overnight and was at minus five degrees, two degree below normal.

Solan was cold at 1.5 degrees; Shimla rained 1.8 mm and recorded a low of 1.5 degrees and Sundernagar 2.5 degrees. In Kangra district Dharamsala and Palampur recorded a low of 4.1 degrees and 4.5 degrees, respectively. Mandi was lowest at 5.2 degrees, Nahan in Sirmaur at 5.7 degrees and Una 6.6 degrees respectively. Baijnath in Kangra district recorded highest six mm rain.

The Met office forecast rain or snow at few places in high reaches, rain or thundershowers in parts of middle hills and mainly dry weather in plains during the next 24 hours.
