Mandi: Finally the matter of Environmental clearance of Alsindi Cement Plant, Karsog has been filed before Green Bench of H.P High Court and has been fixed for 11th of March 2011.

The Lafage India had  been allotted site at Alsindi  Karsog for setting up a cement plant with capacity of 3.0 MTPA by government of Himachal. The plant had also got environment clearance form Ministry of Environment and Forests on 8th of June 2009. However, the local residents filed two appeals before the National Environmental Appellate Authority( NEAA) ,New Delhi, challenging the environmental clearance given to project by Ministry of Environment and Forests. Consequently, NEAA quashed the environmental clearance given to the project on August 30,2010.

The member of NEAA, J.C Kala also visited the project site in the month of June 2010 and that clearance was wrongly granted to the project. The NEAA also criticised the role of A.D.M Mandi who conducted the public hearing of the project, which was opposed by the public at large. Now, Lafarge India has challenged the order of NEAA before Green Bench of Himachal High Court by way of writ petition, appealing for the quashing of order passed by National Environmental Appellate Authority . The Green Bench of High Court has fixed the next date of hearing on 11th March, 2011.
