Second phase of census operation commences in Himachal

Shimla: Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal launched the second phase of census operation in the state from his native village Samirpur in Hamirpur by filling up the prescribed form and providing all the required information to the enumerators today.

This phase of Census-2011 began today and will be completed by 28th February 2011. In this phase, population enumeration will be done in 9 Districts of the state namely Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Kullu, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Una, Solan & Sirmour, covering 58 tehsils, 25 sub tehsils, 45 urban local bodies and 14,132 villages. More than 13,000 enumerators and supervisors have been detailed for this work.

Director of Census Himachal Pradesh Balbir Tegta also called on Governor Urmila Singh today at Himachal Bhawan at Chandigarh and apprised her of the programme and activities being under-taken in this phase. Governor also appealed to the people of the State to fully participate in population enumerations and give complete and correct information to the enumerators.  She said that data generated based on the information is used for development plans of the state and the country.
