Historic council chamber gets a face lift

Shimla: Historic council chamber building housing the Himachal Pradesh Assembly is being given a face-lift, top functionary of assembly said here today.

Secretary Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Goverdhan Singh said in media release here today that beautification and re-burshing works of the council chamber building is expected to be completed before the deadline .i.e. before starting budget session of Himachal assembly from February 28. He informed that the entire ceiling is being renovated, which would brighten the look of the majestic building. The building has witnessed seating of first provincial assembly and transitional government of India.

No major repairs or beautification had taken place in the building after the silver jubilee celebrations of the Vidhan Sabha in 1988 and the building needed attention. New panelling would also be done at a cost of Rs20 lakh, he added.
